Everything you need to know about life in the capital this season is in the winter issue of Our Wellington - Tō Tātou Pōneke, which covers the period from Sunday 16 June to Saturday 31 August. This edition will be the last to hit your mailbox as we move online.
The winter edition is full of information and news, celebrating our city and Matariki, the Māori New Year. Learn about the meaning and traditions of Matariki Puanga.
This issue looks at the story behind Whetuu Maarama, the new waka at the upgraded Te Aro Mahana play area in Frank Kitts Park, alongside top stargazing spots across the capital.
Check out the awesome Matariki events happening in our city such as Ahi Kā and Mana Moana Pōneke, and the Pōhutukawa and Hiwa-i-te-rangi ceremony that will honour those who have passed away since last Matariki and express our hopes for the future.
This issue has details on how we are using climate-positive chipseal on our roads, which will significantly reduce environmental impacts.
We also have an update on how the Council are taking the lead on major transport projects from Let’s Get Wellington Moving and share the news on a new central city hub for recycling and pre-loved goods.
We’re making good progress on multiple projects that will enhance the resilience of Te Ngākau Civic Square and restore it to its place as the civic and cultural heart of the city.
Meet Darren, our wayfinding design specialist who helps create public signage that helps people navigate spaces and places within Pōneke.
Plus, find details about dozens of exciting events and exhibitions, funding opportunities, dates for upcoming Council meetings, and how you can reach your local ward Councillors and Mayor.
